An elegant Maison de Maitre with a fascinating history dating from the 16th century when one family first made it their residence.

Five subsequent generations left their architectural mark and contributed to many extensions of the Maison and complex that exists today. Caressed amidst the beautiful and romantic Charente countryside the quiet and calming setting is further enhanced by mellowed walls surrounding the entire property and offering undisturbed full privacy.

Within the main courtyard proudly stand two yew trees lovingly planted nearly a century ago. Unusual to find in this area of France and carefully revived to their glorious and natural form. Culturally, yews (or ‘Ifs’ - their French translation) have been trees with many sacred associations. Life, death and rebirth. Known by some as the ‘Tree of Life’, they are also synonymous with bringing good luck.

Just as our move to France signifies an exciting new venture for our family it therefore seemed only right that we named the property and business after these majestic and evergreen trees - with a poignant nod to the Pougnaud family that cherished this impressive house as custodians for well over four hundred years.

A wonderful place to start afresh for us; but more importantly when completed, the creation of a vacation and retreat haven providing each welcome guest an experience of idyllic tranquillity and an opportunity to fully recharge and regenerate during their stay.
